Housing Avalanche

Government has published updated planning reforms, which will have massive impact on our area for decades to come.

Media has said much about the threats to Green Belt, but far less has been made of the cause for this concern, which is the escalation in housing for 1.5m new homes in England.

This increase responds to areas with poor housing affordability, including uplifts in southern England in particular.

In our area, housing pressures for development in the Royal Borough will increase each year by 82% and in Bracknell Forest by 25%.

This is really a case of reverse-engineering to arrive at 1.5m homes.

The outcome will be immediate pressure on our councils to permit much greater densities in housing provision and to allow new development proposals in the Green Belt.
